Regardless of where you stand on golf and the Tiger Woods controversy you gotta love how he, the PGA Tour, the Masters and Nike has just created explosive results for all of their businesses. They have just created the marketing event of the century and it will most likely be larger than the super bowl. Now you might ask how this story affects my online business and marketing efforts. Here’s how:
- If you take note of this situation you will learn that YOU must always be in control even when you don’t have it. Control your brand, your name, your business and you overpower the noise out there. The noise is still there but the Brand is louder.
- You can always come back. You’ll try Pay Per Click marketing and lose your shirt. You’ll get caught up in article marketing and get frustrated with the length of time it takes to convert. You can even spin your wheels by performing multiple marketing strategies and master none. Regardless of how bad you fail online you can always come back. Just keep coming back.
- If you give your customers what they want no matter what it cost they will buy. Are we starving for golf from Tiger? Some are and some could care less but the marketing lesson here is that if we are we can get it. In a few weeks we will be willing to pay the price of admissions. Those who don’t care will be compelled to tune in anyway. Marketing, you get it whether you want it or not.
- Maintain your posture. Turn down a 75 million dollar deal to show the world you’re still in demand and in charge of YOU. Maintain your posture with your clients. Don’t chase them, beg them or even care if they join your opportunity. Maintain your posture and you will be sought out by the masses.
I love the power of marketing. It can make you read when you hate it and make you watch when you don’t want to and turn perception into whatever reality it needs to be for the client. The PGA tour, Tiger, Nike and the Masters are the real internet marketing rock stars.
